Preventing Diabetes
A lifestyle approach to preventing type 2 diabetes and managing
complications in all types of diabetes, using Mind-Body-Spirit.
The key to preventing diabetes starts in childhood. By simple healthy
diet and exercise habits, type 2 diabetes is totally preventable.
Weight - maintaining a healthy weight
Exercise - getting at least 2½ hours of
exercise per week [a brisk sustained walk]
Diet - have a modest fat intake, and eat a good
amount of fiber and whole grains. Eating nutritious foods of low
glycemic index may be helpful, but not proven. NOTE: many low-GI
foods are not recommended]
Lifestyle Choices - not advocating intoxication,
but moderate alcohol intake [at or below one ounce of alcohol per
day depending on body mass] may reduce the risk of diabetes 2.
